Colombian, Ecuadorian and Peruvian citizens have a regional residence framework with its own requirements and deadlines.
Best for
- Eligible Andean citizens planning to live in Bolivia
- Applicants comparing regional residence with a work, family or study route
Validity and fees
Validity: Decision 878 provides temporary residence of up to two years. Apply for permanent Andean residence during the 90 days before temporary residence expires; approval is a separate process.
Fee: Confirm Bolivia's current application charge, appointment channel and any exemption with DIGEMIG.
Document checklist
- Eligible travel or national identity document
- Required background certificates and statement of intent
- Documents legalized or apostilled as required
- Current local application form and fee evidence
Application sequence
- Confirm eligibility and the current Bolivian checklist
- Apply through the competent consulate or in-country immigration authority
- Keep the residence approval and track its expiry
- Prepare permanent residence within the agreement's filing window
Watchouts
- Tourism under the Andean framework is separate: 90 days, extendable by another 90, up to 180 days per year. Do not assume an automatic 180-day admission.
- Qualifying Andean residence includes work rights; visa-free tourism alone does not.
- The regional statute establishes the framework; DIGEMIG must confirm the current local procedure.
The right sequence depends on passport, purpose, where you are filing, and whether your documents need apostille or consular legalization.
